Giacomo Puccini : Gianni Schicchi - 11.09.2026
The new production brings together remarkable young talents directed by prestigious, inventive, resolutely modern, and respectful maestros. The only purely comic opera by Giacomo Puccini, Gianni Schicchi is a true musical and theatrical jewel that appeals to a wide audience, from newcomers to opera lovers, from the youngest to the most experienced.
Music by Giacomo Puccini
One-act opera with a libretto by Giovanni Forzano
Ed. Ricordi
The opera will be preceded by an introduction to Dante and The Divine Comedy.
A fierce and jubilant plot. Inspired by an episode from Canto XXX of Dante's Inferno, the opera takes place in Florence in 1299. The wealthy family of Buoso Donati (falsely) mourns his death, until they discover that he has bequeathed his entire fortune to the clergy. Seized by panic, the heirs call upon Gianni Schicchi, a peasant as cunning as he is ingenious, to falsify the will. But the scheme will turn against the greedy conspirators.
A breakneck pace and an immersive staging. Lasting approximately one hour, the work contains no downtime. Supported by an immersive 360° scenography, which places the audience at the heart of the action, this comedy allows the plot to be experienced from the inside and blurs the boundaries between the stage and the auditorium. The tone is lively, the farce cynical and jubilant, the music of formidable dramatic precision, at times biting, at times lyrical. In this perfectly oiled mechanism, acting is just as essential as vocal performance.
