Albena Petrovic-Vratchanska
Albena Petrovic is a Bulgarian-born Luxembourg composer and Chevalier de l'Ordre de Mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (2013). She has also been awarded the Silver Medal of Merit of the Union Grand-Duc Adolphe (2017), the Silver Medal of the Union Saint Pie X (2018) and the 'Prix Culturel 2007' of the commune of Hesperange. In 2007, she was a member of the jury of the Valentino Bucchi International Composition Competition in Rome, Italy.
She has been involved in choral singing, directing several choirs in Luxembourg since 1998, and has written hundreds of arrangements for amateur and professional choirs.
Born in Sofia, she obtained her Master's degree in composition and music writing and her final diploma as a concert pianist in Bulgaria. She has lived in Luxembourg since 1996. She has written over 600 works in various musical genres, including 6 operas. Some of her works have been published by SCHOTT MUSIC International, Luxembourg Music Publishers, Editions L'Octanphare and Furore Verlag. She has released 4 monographic CDs: Crystal Dream, The Voyager, Bridges of Love and Dreamlover on the solo.musica.de label, with great international success, and has been nominated for Opus Klassik 2019, 2020, 2022.
Albena Petrovic is President/Founder of the 'Artistes en Herbe' International Composition Competition under the patronage of the Luxembourg Ministry of Culture. The competition is the only one of its kind in Western Europe - young children can compete in the Junior category, and in the Senior category adult composers are invited to compose music that will enrich the educational repertoire for children.
